Control how your computer
handles automatic updates (XP)

1. Click on Start
2. Right-click on My Computer
3. Select Properties from the shortcut menu
4. Click on the Automatic Updates tab
5. If you check Keep my computer up to date, you will enable the option buttons from which you must pick one:
   • Notify me before downloading any updates and notify me again before installing them on my computer
     
   • Download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed
     
   • Automatically download the updates and install them on the schedule that I specify
6. Pick the option that you want

If you do not check Keep my computer up to date, you will have to perform manual updates by selecting Start | Windows Update
